Public Statement, WSCF Executive Committee 2024

We, the Executive Committee of the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF), convened in Lusaka, Zambia, from December 5-11, 2024, for the WSCF Interregional Ecumenical Training Program on Climate and Economic Justice.

Our gathering aimed to witness, discuss, and confront the challenges posed by climate and economic injustice—issues that jeopardise the well-being of all creation and undermine God’s vision of justice. This meeting also served as our governance meeting, where we voiced our shared concerns, provided public testimony, and issued a prophetic call for immediate action on these pressing matters.

Having witnessed the sheer destruction and unbearable loss of innocent civilian lives in Rafah, the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF) issues the following public statement calling for urgent actions to stop armed violence against Palestinian civilians and to ensure that the ICJ ruling on stopping the Rafah offensive is implemented.

Despite the International Court of Justice’s ruling on 24 May that characterised the humanitarian situation in Gaza as disastrous and warned that the Rafah offensive would bring about the “physical destruction” of the Palestinians – heavy attacks on displacement camps near Rafah continued and resulted in the death of 45 people – primarily women and children.

In light of the recent developments in the occupied territory of Palestine, marked by violence against civilians by an armed group that breached the fence that separated the Gaza of southern Israel and the declaration of a "State of War" by Israel that has escalated the violence, the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF) issues this public statement.

Time of renewed hope and faith

The “empty tomb” is the foundation of our hope for a just world. Easter, then, is the celebration of hope in a world that is increasingly becoming hopeless. Hope for a better and just world is the special privilege of the poor and the marginalised. The Cross was Jesus identification with the struggles of the oppressed and the Resurrection, its vindication.

Have a hope-filled Easter!

Peru is experiencing an escalation of violence carried out by the coup d'état of Dina Boluarte. Since the dismissal of Pedro Castillo as President of Peru on December 7, the people have taken the streets demanding new elections, the resignation of the current government, the Constituent Assembly and the release of Castillo.

The WSCF expresses publicly its deepest concern about the latest events happening in Myanmar.
