MESSAGES & COMMUNIQUÉS
On 6th April 2015, Rev. Dr. Caterina Dupré passed away at the age of 44 after a cruel illness. Caterina was Vice‐chair of WSCF from 2000‐2004. An ordained Pastor in the Waldensian Church of Italy, Caterina had been Director of the Agape Ecumenical Centre since 2009.
Caterina studied theology at the Waldensian Faculy in Rome, where she became an active member of the FGEI (the Italian affiliate of WSCF). A year of studies in Russia kindled a lifelong interest in the theology and spirituality of the Orthodox Church, an interest she pursued with further studies at St Vladimir’s Seminary in New York. Caterina was ordained as a Waldensian Pastor in 2001.
The World Student Christian Federation (WSCF) joins the global ecumenical movement in remembering and celebrating the life of Rev. Dr. Philip Alford Potter who joined our creator on March 31, 2015 in Lubeck Germany at age of 93. A great ecumenical leader of this century who dedicated his life in the service to the churches and the Ecumenical Movement, the WSCF family is immensely honored to have become part of the life of Rev. Dr. Philip Potter.
Philip Potter, born in Roseou Dominican on August 19, 1921, began his ecumenical journey as a young 19-year old theological student at the Methodist Caenwood Theogical Seminary in Jamaica where he became the Study Secretary of the Jamaican Student Christian Movement from 1944 to 1947.
CALL FOR ENGAGEMENT WITH WSCF IN TIMES OF TRANSITION
As I finish my last official day as General Secretary of the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF), a colleague informed me that this was the exact day of the year that Rev Dr Philip Potter finished his term as chairperson of the WSCF, and I just now received the news that Philip Potter died today at the age of 93.
Philip Potter, one of the great ecumenical leaders of our time, is widely lauded for his leadership in the Commission on World Mission and Evangelism and as General Secretary of the World Council of Churches. How many know of his earlier formation in the Jamaica Student Christian Movement (SCM) and his leadership of the WSCF as its Chairperson.
